Do you find yourself searching for the answer to mold growing in your home? Or damp areas in your attic? Correct roof installation and proper ventilation have are important factors when determining what is causing the issue you are having.
What you see in this picture is the section of the plywood facing the inside of the attic with mold growing and multiple water stains around each nail that hold the shingle. On this house we replaced all the plywood and installed a new proper airflow system which consists of a proper intake and exit. With the crazy weather pattern we’ve been having, the proper ventilation can make your house more efficient.
What we’re trying to achieve with the proper ventilation system is to make the attic temperature as close to the outside as possible. Air comes into the vented soffit, styrofoam baffles keep the insulation away from the plywood to allow it into the attic. The attic fan will suck the hot air and moisture from the attic and bring in the cold air from outside.
Benefits of the proper air flow include prevention of heat and humidity build up in your attic, extends the life of the shingles, reduce your energy bill in the summer and will be required by the shingle manufacturer for an extended warranty.
